JEFF MARX

Jeff Marx is the co-creator of Broadway's smash hit musical Avenue Q. Though he never learned to read or write music, he nevertheless won the Tony Award for co-writing the score to Avenue Q, which also won the 2004 Tony Award for Best Musical.
Still attracting sold-out crowds, now in its 3rd year on Broadway, Avenue Q has run longer than 97.7% of all musicals throughout Broadway history. More than a million audience members have attended the show, and over 150,000 CDs have been sold. Avenue Q is currently running in New York and Las Vegas. A national tour will be going out soon, as well as a "clean" version of the show which can be performed by high schools. A production in London's West End opened in June 2006, presented by the legendary producer Cameron Mackintosh (producer of Cats, Le Miz, and Phantom of the Opera). International productions are being planned, in local languages. A network television series is in the works.
Jeff trained as a musical theater actor at the University of Michigan. After graduating, he left acting behind and went on to law school, where he began writing songs in the law revue shows. He joined a songwriting workshop, looking for young talented clients, and instead found a collaborator and a new career direction. He never went back to practicing law. He wrote and published a book called How To Win A High School Election, a serious how-to guide for students running for student council, with tips and ideas collected from 1,000 students. The book has sold over 15,000 copies and is now in its fourth printing.
Jeff and his collaborator have been included on Entertainment Weekly's annual "The It List." They were included on Details magazine's list of "the 50 most powerful men under 35" (they were number 49 out of 50, beating only Lance Armstrong). Jeff was included on Out magazine's annual "Out 100" list of people who have made a difference in the gay community. Much to their surprise, Jeff and Bobby were recently included on Forbes.com's list of 10 "Tastemakers in the Performing Arts" alongside Mike Nichols, Twyla Tharp, Stephen Sondheim, and Andrew Lloyd Webber. They are currently at work writing a new Broadway musical with Matt Stone and Trey Parker (the creators of South Park), as well as writing an original movie musical for Universal Pictures.
